Improvement over previous model for the same price

To start i received this router FREE from Mediabridge products and all i was asked was to test it and write a review on Amazon. Jarrod Coburn from the company who i believe is the main tech guy there sent me the following email:
Hello,
I am sending this email to a select few customers that had purchased our 150N router in the past. We now have a new 300N version of the router with some new features. I would like to have a sample sent to you free of charge. All I ask is that you post a review of your experience on Amazon. The review does not have to be extremely technical but the more information the better.
I had previously purchased the MWN-WAPR150N version and written a detailed review of that product as well. I was overall displeased with the MWN-WAPR150N for various reasons outlined in my review and subsequently purchased another router to replace it. I selected the ASUS RTN66U and have been mostly happy with it, but i am still waiting to review it on here. Given that all of my comparisons in this review will be based on comparisons to the ASUS router which is a very advanced router and 3x the cost so keep that in mind.
All performance testing for speed and throughput was done with a fairly new toshiba laptop with built in N wireless adapter and using Speedtest.net and inSSIDer wireless analyzer software. Signal strength was tested with Droid razr maxx and wifi analyzer app.
My property is approximately .7 acres and a brick house. All tests were taken in the exact same spots around my house and property between 11am and noon. The routers are located in master bedroom and measurements of distance from router are approximations. The test at my mailbox are the most interference location having to travel through every wall in my house.
To start with the unboxing, installation, and setup of the medialink router took less than 5 minutes. I was quite pleased with the ease of which it detects and sets up the internet link. It also automatically asks you to change the default ssid name and password if you choose and also defaults with a secure network which is helpful. Again the initial configuration takes mere minutes. I also noticed that the router defaults to channel bonding verified with inSSIDer. It linked channels 6+2 to achieve advertised 300 bandwidth. The ASUS router also channel bonds but it must be user enabled in the firmware settings manually. Now on to the testing results. I will start with my baseline results of the ASUS router first. MY ISP is charter cable at 30mb/s download speed limit.

So my take on the results are as follows. The locations that the Medialink performed much worse are the locations with the greatest amount of walls and obstructions for the signal to pass through. All other locations it seems to keep up nicely with the more powerful ASUS Dark Knight. Also I would guess the Medialink uses a much smaller patch style antenna whereas the Asus has 3 external antennas. Overall it seems that Mediabridge has taken some nice steps to improve their product over the previous model. I have no data yet to touch on day to day consistency or dropping connections and subsequent reconnects. That was the main problem I had with the 1st generation Medialink router. My plan is to reconnect my ASUS and attempt to link the medialink router to use it as an access point in my bonus room just to see if it works. I think it has this capability and i will revisit this review with an update once i do so after the holidays.
My final thoughts are if this router can prove sustained connections on a day to day basis and ease of reconnects at times when power outages and such occur or when relocating devices then for the money i would say this router should be considered.
The ease of setup alone is a huge benefit especially for those who aren't tech savvy. Also keep in mind i compared this to one of the top of the line routers you can buy so i feel it does rather well keeping up.

5/6/13 Update:
In December i allowed a neighbor install this router in his house for some long term testing. He has quite a higher usage level there with the amount of devices constantly connected. Himself,wife and 5 kids all utilizing wireless at the same time plus streaming video via Netflix regularly. Six months steady and he tells me he has had no problems to speak of so based on that time period and the load on the router it seems that it is indeed capable of handling most anyone's requirements.

Ok, now I'm even more surprised

I wrote the top review for their older 150mbps model (here: http://11-space.tk/com/review/R9EBLJI0TOUJI/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0044YU60M&nodeID=541966&store=pc) and I was so pleased with the purchase I jumped at the chance to get their new flagship model which boasted 300mbps. While I doubt this review will get a quarter of the attention the last one did, I plan on being equally as honest and will continue to update it as time goes on.
Over the last year or so my wifi needs had changed a bit. I was streaming more 1080p bandwith hogs from my server, doing more file-sharing, online gaming and had more devices (like mobile phones, laptops, BluRay Player, satellite box, media devices, etc) leeching off my router. With all that I had occasionally noticed a hiccup from my little-router-that-could when pushing it past its limit.
Immediately upon receiving the new router I was a bit shocked that it looked exactly like its predecessor. For a second I worried they might have shipped the wrong one (see my pics in customer images) but clearly the box said 300mbps. However, since I liked the look of the other one so much I figured, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". The only difference physically is the Ethernet ports are upside down and the power port is flipped to the opposite side of the 150 model. I wonder if this means the internal board is completely flipped?
Install was easier than the 150mbps (plug and play without the need to load drivers separately) and the browser interface seems more user friendly as well. I was up and running in seconds and put it through a few days of tests. I live in a very Wifi noisy area, and I have to say this easily out performs its slower brother when it comes to the range of the antenna. I was already pleased with the older one's range, but this new model is simply more consistently powerful with no discernible drops in signal (image of testing posted above). I noticed it has 2 antennas as opposed to the single antenna of the older version.
SO.. now on to the real world scenarios. I went around resetting passwords on all my wifi devices and flipped them on. I connected a media bridge and started loading a 1080p video through the router while doing some online gaming an steaming music while my friend logged in and started streaming some youtube videos. I have to say, after 45 minutes of this... with no pixalization or buffering... I called it a screaming success. When moving files over the network I noticed a FANTASTIC decrease in wait time. I'm really really pleased with this.
From what I can tell the price is EXACTLY what I paid for the 150mbps. Are you kidding me? That's simply incredible. Included in the box is your standard fare *Router (duh) *3ft Ethernet cable *power cable *Driver CD (I suppose if you absolutely needed it)
Pros:
Everything written above... and this bottom line: I was SO pleased at the value of my older Medialink router, I replaced it with the exact same model when a power surge from a storm broke it prematurely. That is probably the only time in history I've ever done that. This one already surpasses that awesome little guy.
Cons:
The blue LEDs, while cool looking, will light up a dark room like a night club. I sometimes have to toss a shirt over it in my bedroom.
Simply stated, this isn't hyperbole. Look at the massive number of positive reviews for Medialink attached to their 150mps model. This is probably the best bang for the buck you're going to find, and Medialink has the best customer service of almost any company I've had the pleasure to communicate with. And it seems the major brands have taken notice of this. If this one is half as good as the last one, I'll be a happy camper.

UPDATE: 6/20/2013: Well, I wanted to give an update... the router died 5 days ago. Broadcasted an ID but wouldn't allow devices to connect plus wouldn't allow connection to the router's configuration menu. I did a hard reset, but it still didn't allow connection. Tried default passwords on the wifi, nothing. Anything hard wired in still operated and was able to connect. So, there you are. Don't know what caused it, no other devices had issues. Just wanted to be complete in my review.
UPDATE: 9/6/13: So I've been very neglectful on updating this, but right after I had the issue with the router and typed my update here, I contacted Medialink and told them about my problem. They asked me a couple questions about my contact , and before I knew it there was a shiny new router sitting in my living room. These guys really stand by their products and their customer service is TOP notch. I unplugged my 3 year old Medialink backup router (that was still churning away fine) and popped this one in and fired it up. No issues with setup and I was rocking and rolling in minutes. Can't say enough about this company. Their router is still the best on the market at the price and you get that personal customer service touch missing in so many other places. If they read this, THANKS!!

I bought this router to replace a 3+ year old Netgear. I've owned a bunch of routers in the past, and have never owned one that has not given me problems....until now!
Installing this router was a breeze, it took perhaps 2 minutes. You simply open it up and plug it in and it automatically connects to your modem. The browser configuration is far more simple than most routers - and all of the advanced settings that might need are still available. It took about 20 seconds to change the name of the network and the password, and then we were off and running.
After a few days of use, I've experienced 100% uptime and speeds as fast as advertised. Signal is strong, and easily stretches to any room in my apartment.
I'll update this in a month or two after using it for longer, but so far - two thumbs up!
